Loufi
Jean-Luc Handel professionally known as Loufi is a Port-Elizabeth born artist who is making waves in the South- African music scene. Loufi is a passionate, hardworking and self driven individual who experiments with all types of sounds because, in his words, “music breaks barriers”.
Growing up in a small suburb called Young Park, his music career started in his grandmothers laundry room with ta group of teenagers known as CMB. Making local music on mix-tape beats was an essential part of their lives. Loufi always knew that music was what he wanted to do but without a solid income from music he found himself in more “secure” jobs as a means to provide for his family.
All that changed when he was retrenched in 2019. He decided to use that opportunity to take the leap of faith and pursue his musical passion full time. After getting no breaks and having to sell his car to finance his “Ek is Broke” music video he caught the attention of major music label, Universal Music Group. He has since released numerous singles through Universal and released his debut album ‘Gan Se Jou Mense’ in early 2021.
Loufi draws inspiration for his music from everything around him, but mostly from his own personal experiences. He considers the art of writing music as his own personal therapy session and he leaves a piece of himself on every track. His sound has evolved since his early days and although he has created his own lane, he always carries a part of hip-hop with him and this is evident in his music.
